The Lord God made us all

Sung Eucharist, York Minster, February 1998

I’m not a believer

I don’t think

But singing the Service

Makes sense -

A job of work

For journeymen musicians

Recreating the world

Beyond.

So what of the wasp

Trapped in Byrd’s Agnus Dei

In my trousers?

Was it part of the whole,

Panicking, jabbing

Into a shin

Before dashing

Finally, fatally,

To the light?

Its death, my pain,

A necessary sacrifice?

Vespa Dei

Qui tollis stigmata mundi

Have mercy on me

Miserable offender.....

Iain Mitchell 1998
