George Galway MacCann

Writings

George MacCann's capacity for friendship was unlimited; affection and generosity for friends, courtesy to strangers, a fine sense of hospitality shared abundantly by his wife who serves some of the best food in Ireland. He excelled, of course, in conversation. His memory was flawless and his independence of spirit entirely refreshing. Those who would remember something of his capacity for entertainment should read (or re-read) "Sparrows Round my Brow" a slender volume of short stories written during the Vine Cash years and published by Richard Rowley at the Mourne Press in 1942. In the best of them the reader will find a delightful sense of the absurd.
